    “The ground is for walking on. It’s not for our flag.” With those words, Bill Stodghill recently began a flag etiquette class for fifth grade students at Blue Ridge Elementary School.

    The class is an annual presentation by the North Georgia Honor Guard for Fannin County’s fifth graders.

    Besides the importance of never letting the United States flag touch the ground, Stodghill went over proper ways to display the flag, how it is used to honor a veteran at his or her funeral, and how to properly dispose of a flag once it has become worn.

    At the end of the event, several students took part in a hands on experience of how to properly fold the flag. Others took a test over the what they had just heard about the flag and its uses.
