Amanda Foody brought her passion for writing to Fannin County Middle School last week to share that passion with students.
The New York Times best selling author made several presentations throughout Thursday, February 8.
Students’ hands went up in the session after lunch when she asked, “Do you like to read?”
Foody received the same response to the question, “Do your like to write,” although writing fiction was more popular than writing non-fiction.
She then talked about the types of creative writing including fiction, poetry, screenwriting, play writing, and comic writing. “One of my favorite things is still learning things about it. Creative writing does not include non-fiction,” Foody said.
She said passion is at the heart of writing, especially if someone wanted to start a book writing career.
“You’re your only cheerleader (in the beginning),” she said.
Scott Moat, the media specialist at FCMS, invited Foody to the school after meeting her at TomeCon, a literacy event for students in grades 2 through 12.
The event features a wide range of authors and all facets of literacy.
The fourth book in Foody’s middle grades adventure series, Wilderlore No. 4, The Race Begins, is slated for release March 5.
Her previous books have been recognized as instant New York Times and Indie bestsellers, Amazon’s Besty Young Adult Book of 2021, and a Junior Library Gold Standard Selection.
One of her most recent awards was a South Carolina Book Award.
