Street closings, construction snarling Blue Ridge traffic

Motorists should brace for significant disruptions as East First Street, a key artery in Blue Ridge, closes for sewer main repairs.

The closure, which will last until September 20, is expected to impact local traffic flow, necessitating careful navigation and adherence to detours.

Drivers traveling on Josh Hall Road should turn right onto East Main Street. For those heading north on East First Street, a right turn onto Hill Street will provide access to East Second Street.

Vehicles from Windy Ridge should either use East Second Street or turn left onto East First Street.

In related traffic updates, Mountain Street and Roberts Way will continue to be closed 24 hours a day for culvert replacement until September 15. Work in this area was originally scheduled to conclude by September 11, as reported by Blue Ridge City Clerk Joe Patterson in July. Patterson noted, “It’s dependent on weather at this point.”

Additionally, from September 16 through today, September 18, motorists should continue to expect delays at East First Street between Industrial Blvd. and Mountain Street while the area is undergoing milling and resurfacing.

A new traffic light at the intersection of Church Street and East First Street has been installed, though it is still not fully operational. The light is currently positioned a few inches lower than standard.

The city and the contractor are addressing this issue, and a replacement pole has been ordered to correct the installation.
