St. Anthony Catholic Church in Blue Ridge is looking for contributions to aid Blue Ridge resident Lexy Lopez, a 26-year-old with a mental disability, who recently lost her mother, Terry Lopez, to a stroke.
“She has nowhere to stay, no family and no support,” St. Anthony’s Business Manager Nanci Bailey said. “Since her mother’s death she has been in and out of facilities. She is now staying in a ministry until we can find a permanent home for her. As of now, she is not getting any state assistance for a permanent home.”
The church is looking for help in the following areas:
•An advocate for Lopez to assist Bailey in overall coordination;
•Someone to assist in finding Lopez a permanent home (she wants to stay with a family);
•Someone to assist Bailey in dealing with agencies;
•Someone to help get a waiver for Medicaid;
•Someone to deal with Social Security Administration issues;
•Someone to take Lopez to her home to go through personal effects; and
•Someone to set up her phone service.
The church is also looking for monetary contributions to help with the following expenses:
•Rent for March - $500;
•Electricity December/January/February - $240 (estimate);
•Phone - $400;
•Food at the mission where she is staying - $350; and
•Clothing/Incidentals - $250 to $450.
They would also like to get Lopez a few “nice things” to put a smile on her face.
Bailey explained that Lopez loves to draw and that the church is looking for donations to purchase drawing gifts and drawing related Xbox games.
Lopez’s birthday was November 2, however she did not receive much, according to Bailey. Due to this, the church is also looking for donations to help provide her with a birthday party, gifts, hair and nail appointments, and a shopping trip.
Overall the church is looking for monetary contributions around $2,775 to help Lopez.
Checks can be made payable to St. Anthony Catholic Church and can be mailed to P.O. Box 1448, Blue Ridge, GA 30513 or delivered to the church at 967 E. Main St. in Blue Ridge. Please identify “Neighbors Helping Neighbors - Lexy Lopez” on the check or envelope.
Those who would like to directly send Lopez cards, flowers, gift certificates or gifts can send them to the church as well.
