Sports history coming to life

History: King asks help finding pictures

Technology is bringing Fannin County High School (FCHS) sports history to life.

Jeremy King, athletic director at FCHS, was busy last Wednesday night showing off one of four new interactive screens in the Fannin County High School gym that display that history back for all to see.

One by one as fans entered for the basketball contests against Christian Heritage, one of the screens would catch their eye. King would go through the touch screen features that could take them to a year, a team or a person who has excelled in a high school sport.

All four screens, hanging around the upper level of the gym, connect to the same information while all work independently.

The idea for system came because  the gym walls were out of room to record all the accolades athletes have earned.

King said his project over the Thanksgiving break was to determine how many photos could be hung on the gym walls. Fifty was the magic number, but there was a problem. King had 49 pictures to hang. With athletes and teams continuing to bring honors home to FCHS, something had to be done and technology was the answer.

King was quick to say recording FCHS sports history is a work in progress, one for which the community’s help is needed. The school does not have photographic records of some of the many accomplishments achieved.

The criteria for a team or individual to be entered into this digital history is:

•A team must have advanced to Elite 8 competition in state playoffs or higher, or won a region championship; and,

•An individual must have a top four finish in an individual sport, signed to play at the college level, or played at the college level.

Anyone who has pictures to contribute to this history should contact King at jeremyking@fannin.k12.ga.us.
