The Fannin County Board of Education (FCBOE) unanimously approved the rollback millage rate, the FY 2022 budget, the purchase of a special needs equipped school bus, and a contribution for a full-time AmeriCorps member serving with Georgia 4-H in Fannin County. The decisions came during the regular board meeting Thursday, August 12.
The board approved the 2021 rollback millage rate of 10.159, which means there will be no tax increase, and they adopted the FY 2022 budget with no changes made to what was advertised in The News Observer.
The purchase of a 23-passenger special needs equipped school bus from Peach State Freightliner Thomas Bus Sales of Georgia was also approved by board members.
The purchase price for the bus is $106,580, which will be funded by State of Georgia bond bus funds in the amount of $77,220 and the balance of $29,360 to be paid from Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax funds.
A contribution in the amount of $3,000 was
approved for a full-time AmeriCorps State Member serving with Georgia 4-H in Fannin County. The fee will cover costs required by the grant such as training, branding material, living allowance, and such.
The term of service will last from September 1, 2021, through August 31, 2022, and the member can start as soon as AmeriCorps requirements are met and the University of Georgia Extension gives the approval.
The FCBOE was also informed that the Fannin County School System has been selected to receive a U.S. Department of Agriculture Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program grant for the 2021-2022 school year. The program offers an opportunity during the school day to provide a nutritious snack that will help students stay focused on learning.
The total grant allocation of $80,785 is based on the enrollment of the participating school and will cover July 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022. Grant allotments will be given to Blue Ridge Elementary in the amount of $25,743, East Fannin Elementary in the amount of $22,985, and West Fannin Elementary in the amount of $32,057.
The FCBOE also unanimously approved the following personnel hires teacher Jennifer Hooper; substitute teachers Brenda Thomas and Sara Attard Taylor; substitute bus driver Tina Dillingham; and, substitute clerical Susan Michelle Lynn.
The resignation of Brittany Johnson from the nutrition department was also approved.
