Pickin’ returns to park Thursday

Pickin’ in the Park is set to return to Ron Henry Horseshoe Bend Park in McCaysville tomorrow, Thursday, July 9, beginning at 6 p.m.

The annual event, which occurs every Thursday through September, features live music jams, lots of singing and pickin’ on the banks of the Toccoa River. Anyone who plays a guitar, fiddle, up-right bass, banjo or dobro, is invited to participate. However, no electric instruments are allowed.

The event is sponsored by the Fannin County Recreation Department and is free to all.

Picnic tables and the grassy lawn are available, however attendees are welcome to bring a blanket or a chair if they wish.

The musical entertainment begins on the park’s main stage and, dependent on how many musicians show up, can often spread across different areas of the park.

According to the Recreation Department, the number of attendees has varied in the past from 400 people to 1,500 people.

The park is located at 1156 River Road off of Highway 60 and will be open through dusk if weather permits.
