Over 100 Fannin County School System students are currently quarantining due to a school exposure to COVID-19.

Fannin County has seen an increase of 103 cases of COVID-19 over the last two weeks as of Monday, September 14.

This brings the county’s total up to 548 positive cases since the pandemic began.

Nine of those people who had contracted the virus have died, and 40 have been hospitalized.

All school system employees have now been deemed “essential” by the state, which means, on a case by case basis, if an employee has been exposed to someone who has tested positive for the virus and remains asymptomatic, they have the option to either quarantine for 14 days or remain at work while they monitor for symptoms and follow CDC and Department of Health guidelines.

Those employees who choose to continue to work in the schools will be required to wear a mask, maintain a 6-foot distance from all other individuals and have a daily symptom check provided by a school administrator or someone designated by an administrator upon their arrival. If any symptoms develop, they will be required to immediately leave the school.
