The McCaysville Police Department has been awarded First Place in Category 1 of the Governor’s Challenge competition. The honor was presented in Macon, Georgia, October 25.
The award is described by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) as, “The state’s premier law enforcement awards ceremony recognizing state, local, campus and military law enforcement units for the outstanding work they do in promoting highway safety through education and enforcement.”
Competition is points based in seven areas including policy, training, incentives and recognition, public information and education, enforcement, effectiveness and quality of the submitted application.
GOHS sponsors the award. Category 1 represents departments with one to 10 officers. Last year’s winner was the Alto Police Department.
“I am both honored and humbled to receive this award,” McCaysville Police Chief Michael Earley said.
“This honor speaks highly of everyone in the police department and their dedication to the citizens of McCaysville.
“I want to thank those citizens for their support and also thank the mayor and council. Without the support of everyone, this award would have never been possible,” Earley said.
