The Fannin County Lady Rebel basketball defense showed up and showed out Tuesday, December 21, when the Lady Rebels faced off against the Oconee County Lady Warriors. The Lady Warriors are ranked seventh in 7AAA.
The Lady Rebels and Lady Warriors battled for four quarters, but Fannin was able to come away with a 50-33 victory over Oconee County.
Ellie Cook led the Lady Rebels in the first quarter, scoring seven points on two, two-point baskets and three free throws. Jenna Young drained a three-point basket and Courtney Davis rattled in a two-point bucket. Becca Ledford capped the first quarter scoring with a converted free throw to give Fannin 13 points. The Lady Rebels held the Lady Warriors to four points in the first as the Lady Rebels led 13-4.
Fannin spread the scoring around in the second quarter as Reagan York, Young and Reigan O’Neal netted a three-point basket each. Davis and Ledford combined for four points as the duo got a two-point basket to fall each.
Fannin scored 13 points in the second while holding the Lady Warriors to eight points to lead 26-12 at halftime.
The Lady Rebels erupted for 17 points in the third quarter as York led the team with five points on a three ball and two free throws. Ava Queen worked the paint and churned out a two-point bucket and two free throws, followed by Ledford knocking in two, two-point baskets. Cook added four points to her total on a three ball and a free throw, while the Lady Rebels held Oconee County to 12 points in the third to lead 43-24.
The Fannin County defense held the Lady Warriors to just nine points in the fourth, while offensively, O’Neal drained a long range three ball and Davis got a two-point bucket to fall. York fought her way to the line where she converted two free throws to give Fannin a 50-33 victory in the game.
The Lady Rebels Head Coach Ryan Chastain was proud of his team saying, “Our team defense was tremendous! They were the seventh ranked team in AAA, and we held them to four points in the first quarter and 12 in the first half! We felt like we were in control of the game from the tip.
We did a really good job sharing the ball on offense. The scoring was very balanced. This is our fourth win over a top 10 opponent this year. I’m so proud of this team and their toughness!”
