Legislation to increase the compensation for Fannin County Board of Education members from $4,800 annually to $12,000 was passed by Georgia’s House of Representatives and Senate as of March 9.
According to the Georgia General Assembly’s Legislation website, the house bill, HB 1043, has yet to be sent to Governor Brian Kemp.
This bill, as currently written, will become effective July 1 of this year if signed by Kemp.
The legislation states, “Each member of the Board of Education of Fannin County shall be compensated in the amount of $12,000 annually, to be paid in equal monthly installments.
“In addition, each member of the board shall be entitled to reimbursement for actual expenses necessarily incurred in connection with travel outside Fannin County on official business of the board of education including, but not limited to, attending training sessions or state-wide meetings; provided, however, that such travel is authorized by a majority vote of the members of the board of education prior thereto.”
The board voted to adopt a resolution regarding this compensation increase in September of last year. From there, it was sent to Speaker of the House David Ralston so that he could present it during legislative session, because the board could not locally set a compensation increase.
This increase will raise the total board compensation to $60,000 annually.
