Helton, Hensley in runoff for chairman

Following June 9th’s General Election Primary, Fannin County resident Jamie Hensley will now face incumbent Stan Helton in a runoff for chairman of the Fannin County Board of Commissioners.

Hensley collected 41.05% of the vote with 2,707 total votes cast in his favor, which is less than the 50% and one vote requirement to avoid a runoff. 

Helton collected the second highest total of votes with 1,554 votes cast. 

In the same race, former commission chairman Bill Simonds collected 1,321 votes and Vincent Davis collected 1,012 votes.

Hensley received the most votes in every precinct except Sugar Creek, where he and Simonds tied with 21 votes each.

Whichever local candidate  wins the runoff, scheduled for August 11, will run unopposed in November’s General Election.

Republicans Matt Gurtler and Andrew Clyde will see a run-off for U.S. House 9th District Republican nomination.

Gurtler received 28,227 votes statewide, and Clyde received 24,586. In Fannin, Gurtler received 1,057 votes to Clyde’s 1,238.

Democrats Brooke Siskin and Devin Pandy will also see a run-off for the U.S. House 9th District Democratic nomination.

Siskin collected more votes statewide with 11,729 votes to Pandy’s 9,372. In Fannin, Siskin received 457 votes, and Pandy received 309.

The runoff will also take place August 11, and the winning candidate from each party will be featured on the ballot in the General Election scheduled for Tuesday, November 3.
