Haynes asked to resign from Polk County board

Buddy Haynes, the owner of Copperhill Industries, has been asked to resign his position on the Polk County Industrial Economic Development Board (IEDB) over the ongoing biosolids issue.

John Pippenger wrote in a June 14 letter to Haynes he had been requested by fellow members of the county commission and people in the community to ask for the resignation.

Pippenger, who is chairman of the Polk County commission, wrote, “it appears from the community response overall that the majority of the county does not feel that your input and vote on this board would be in sync with the virtues of the people of Polk County.”

“The situation that you and the county finds itself in terms of public relations calls for the request to be made,” Pippenger wrote.

Haynes was named to the IEDB in September 2021by the county commission.

An email was sent to Haynes early Monday morning asking his plans. However, Sarah Mickens-Haynes replied in an email at 10:42 a.m. that morning that Haynes had not received the letter from Pippenger.

No response was received by Tuesday morning.
