Group targets trash in twin cities area

A group of patrons and newly discovered friends from Buck Bald Brewing who are concerned citizens from North Georgia, Western North Carolina, and East Tennessee came together to pick up trash along Highway 68 in Copperhill Wednesday, August 4.

The Buck Bald Beautification Brigade (BBBB) have decided to take it upon themselves to clean up trash along the roads and highways in Copperhill and McCaysville on the first Wednesday of each month.

Tennessee Litter Grant Director for Polk County William Wallace met the group Wednesday and provided them with safety vests, trash grabbers, trash bags, disposable gloves and hand sanitizer as well as his support.

BBBB have been concentrating on the stretch of Highway 68 leading out of Copperhill across the railroad tracks, and next month they plan to pick up trash in McCaysville along Blue Ridge Drive and Highway 5. The goal is to alternate between Polk County and Fannin County.

In two hours, the 13 member group picked up 24 bags of trash weighing approximately 525 pounds along Highway 68. Wallace took all the bags of trash and properly disposed of them at the Grassy Creek Convenient Center.

The organizer of BBBB Sarah Wright who lives in Murphy, North Carolina, said, “We just want it to look better. It’s such a stunningly beautiful area.
