GDOT taking property for Highway 5 work

The Georgia Department of Transportation has begun the process of condemning property for their Highway 5 improvement projects. 

At this time, there are four properties that are set to be condemned in order to complete the project.

The first property owner listed is Papa’s Pizza To Go of McCaysville, GA., Inc. for their property located at 305 Blue Ridge Drive in McCaysville. According to the legal notice that will run in The News Observer, 0.040 acres of land and certain easement rights will be required for the project. $17,100 has been deposited with The Clerk of Superior Court as “just compensation.”

Terry A. Winkler, individually and as surviving joint tenant of Tenna R. Winkler, and William Jones are listed as the owners of the second property to be condemned, which is located at 765 Blue Ridge Drive in McCaysville. There are 0.050 acres of land and certain easement rights that will be required, and $63,100 is listed as total compensation.

The third property owner listed is Johnny Graham Gray, and 0.013 acres of his land and easement rights located at 51 Panter Street in McCaysville will be required for the project. $3,000 is listed as total compensation.

The fourth property owners listed are Sandy Collins, James R. Millard and William Jones for their property at 362 First Street in McCaysville. The project will require 0.017 acres of their property. $2,900 is listed as total compensation.

Each of these condemnations are listed as citations in the Superior Court of Fannin County, Georgia. They were filed in office May 6, 2020.
