Food pantry serving more, needs volunteers

The Fannin County Family Connection Food Pantry has continued to serve the community during the COVID-19 pandemic and has implemented a few changes to help prevent the spread of the virus.

The food pantry is open Monday through Thursday, from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Clients are currently not allowed inside to limit exposure, however a drive-thru has been implemented to provide necessary food items.

The facility’s staff is thoroughly sanitizing the facility and working to ensure appropriate guidelines are followed.

While volunteers are still able to work in the facility, many have had to step back from their work for their own safety during this time, Executive Director Sherry Morris said. They could use more volunteers, who are able, particularly on Mondays and Tuesdays.

The facility is serving around 40% more people than they did this time a year ago. They are currently running low on canned fruit and vegetables and could use monetary donations to purchase these things through the food bank.

Those looking to donate can do so online at fannin.gafcp.org or by mail to PO Box 2715, Blue Ridge, Georgia 30513.

The food pantry is located at 501 Industrial Park in Blue Ridge and can be reached at 706-632-6063.
