Fannin County Board of Commissioners approved the use of $21,779 for Animal Control to receive new flooring Tuesday, October 26.
The funds will come from the 2021 Animal Control budget. “We did have some savings over the year, and I believe we could use that, and we would still be in good shape moving forward towards the end of the year,” board Chairman Jamie Hensley said.
The new floors would be installed in the kennels and back facility, but would not include the office space. The new flooring will be an epoxy resin and help improve drainage, which would make cleaning easier and improve the dry time in the kennels.
The cost includes labor and materials. The dogs will need to be temporarily removed from the facility for four days. According to Hensley, he, animal control employee Donna Turek and Interim Animal Control Interim Manager J.R. Cornett, have reached out to rescues and fosters that have agreed to help house the animals while the flooring is installed.
The board also re-tabled the discussion for software for Animal Control. According to Board Chairman Jamie Hensley, Animal Control employees and a volunteer have been searching for software that fits the county’s needs at a lower annual cost than the Shelter Pro Software Equipment previously discussed. Free or “close to free” demos of different software will be arriving for the county to preview before the board makes a final decision.
