A McCaysville resident faces numerous charges after he allegedly pointed a gun at a five-year-old child last week.
David Scott Smallwood, 27, of Barry Street Apartments, was taken into custody by McCaysville police officers shortly before 9 a.m. Thursday, September 3.
Police Chief Mike Earley said the Fannin County dispatch center advised officers that a female caller reported a “male had pointed a gun at a five-year-old then pointed a gun at himself.”
At the time, besides Smallwood and the five-year-old, the female and a two-year-old were in the apartment.
When officers arrived, the female and two children were able to flee the apartment.
Officers entered and found Smallwood sitting at the kitchen table with the gun on his chest. They were able to take him into custody without incident, Earley said.
Smallwood was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, aggravated assault, possession of methamphetamine, felony cruelty to children, and a misdemeanor count of pointing a gun at another.
