FCMS competition collects over 4,000 items for homeless

    What started with a class assignment ended with over 4,000 donations and a pizza party donated to Fannin County’s homeless population.

    Alisha Stiles assigned her eighth grade Graphic Design class at Fannin County Middle School to create a business and build a functioning website for that business.

    Cash Goulah, Allie Potts, Raygan Corn and Lillie Williams came up with the idea to create a non-profit corporation that would help the homeless population in Fannin County.

    Goulah said, “We really felt there was a need for this,” and began the project with the hope the community might see it and carry the idea farther.

    The concern spread and took root in the school, resulting in a competition between clubs to see which one could gather the most donations for the area’s homeless.

    Over 4,000 items were collected in January, with the most coming from the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). Donna Whitener has donated storage space as the items wait to be distributed.

    The 50 to 60 member FCA earned a pizza party as their prize, and in turn donated that party to the area’s homeless population. Details were still being worked out for such an event last week with club members wanting to help serve the meal.
