FCHS earns spot in national rankings

Fannin County High School (FCHS) has been ranked #3,101 in the nation and #72 in the state of Georgia by U.S. News & World Report.

The annual list of “The U.S. News Best High Schools rankings” ranks schools on criteria that includes college readiness, college curriculum breadth, math and reading proficiency, math and reading performance, graduation rank and more.

“I am extremely proud of the efforts of our students and staff,” Principal Erik Cioffi said. “They amaze me each year with their commitment to success. FCHS has earned this distinction for the 5th time in the past six years.”

According to the media company, “The U.S. News Best High Schools rankings include data on more than 24,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. Nearly 18,000 schools were ranked on six factors based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college.”

FCHS received an overall scorecard of 82.59 out of 100. U.S. News listed that 29% of the school’s students took at least one AP Exam, 20% passed at least one AP Exam, 62%  reached mathematic proficiency, 59% reached reading proficiency and 94% graduated.

The data used to determine the ranking is entirely from third party sources and pertains primarily to the 2017-2018 academic year.

“We will continue to find ways to improve and will set our sights on 2021 for another successful year,” Cioffi said. “Our goal is to provide the best possible education for all of our students, so that they have endless options when they graduate. Our staff is simply the most dedicated and hardest working group of adults, and it is an absolute honor to work every day with them at FCHS. Congratulations to our students for demonstrating their success and for our staff in helping lead them towards their future.”
