Fannin wants bids for three paving projects

Fannin County Public Works Director Zack Ratcliff will solicit bids for paving and striping projects on Galloway Road, Curtis Switch Road and Sugar Creek Road following approval at the Board of Commissioners meeting Tuesday, June 23.

The county will use Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) funds in the amount of $732,476.14 and county match funds of $219,742.84 to pay for the the projects.

“We’ve got to use that or we’re going to lose it or have to pay it back,” Ratcliff said.

According to Ratcliff, he hopes to pave 3.5 miles of Galloway Road, 2.2 miles of Curtis Switch Road and 1 mile of Sugar Creek Road. He also intends to widen Curtis Switch and Sugar Creek by one foot on each side.

The county will prioritize the roads based on the bids and the available funds.

Chairman Stan Helton said, “What you’re proposing is that we put bids out for all three roads, have the cost for individual roads, and then when we make a decision on accepting bids we can determine how we want to prioritize which of these roads and try to maximize using the grant money and use what we’re paying out of your SPLOST fund, which you have plenty SPLOST money to accommodate our part of it, and then we can make decision at that time if we can do all three roads or two roads.”

The Public Works department also intends to chip and seal 12.8 miles in total on 12 different roads within the county.

These roads include Whispering Pines Road, Old Loving Road, Coles Crossing, Ross Road, Hogback Road, Padena Road, Virginia Drive, Hay Good Road, Fish Trap Road, Douthit Road, Cashes Valley Road and Old Quarry Road.
