Road bids reviewed
Fannin County received $642,084 in 2021 Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) funds from the Georgia Department of Transportation this year.
Public Works Director Zack Ratliff made the announcement during a Board of Commissioners meeting Monday, August 10, where he explained that the funds totaled $90,000 less than LMIG grant funds the county received last year.
“It’s a good deal,” Ratcliff said. “We’ve got a difference of about $90,000 from last year, but we’re still in the ball game. … I questioned this a little bit and it is due to COVID-19.”
The grant stipulates a 30% county match in funds, which will be paid for using Road & Bridges SPLOST funds, Chairman Stan Helton said.
The board also opened five bids for the previously voted on re-paving, re-striping and leveling projects on Sugar Creek Road, Curtis Switch Road and Galloway Road.
The first, Bartow Paving Company, bid $1,824,707.53 for all three roads.
Colditz Trucking presented two cost options. The first at $1,318,269.11, which includes asphalt, and $375,458.49, which does not.
Colwell Construction bid $387,872.08 for Sugar Creek Road, $570,604.78 for Curtis Switch Road and $685,726.08 for Galloway Road.
C.W. Mathews bid $1,543,165 for all three roads.
The last bid read, from Northwest Georgia Paving, Inc., would cost $2,314,708.70 for all three roads.
The board will allow Ratcliff to review the bids before making a final decision at their next meeting.
