A 19-year-old suspect who was living in Fannin County remained in the Cherokee County, North Carolina, jail late last week under a $250,000 bond.
Dru Jordyn Baine of 7980 Blue Ridge Drive was arrested June 13 by Fannin County Deputy Sheriff Matthew Peardon on a hold for other jurisdiction based on a criminal warrant out of Cherokee County. He was released five days later to North Carolina authorities.
Baine was wanted in connection with a two-count grand jury indictment charging him with statutory rape of child by adult and taking indecent liberties with children. Baine’s victim was under the age of 13 at the time while Baine was at least 18, the indictment said.
A statement from Cherokee County Sheriff Derrick Palmer said his office learned of the alleged sexual assault in mid-October 2019. The indictment was returned May 18. Baine moved to Georgia some time during the investigation. Baine is scheduled to appear in court August 3.
