Fannin library opens doors for modified hours, services

The Fannin County Public Library opened to the public for modified hours and services Monday, June 8.

The library will be open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

While their outside drop box is open for patrons to return materials, they are unable to accept donations at this time.

A portion of the library’s computer stations will be available for use during opening hours, for 30 minute sessions, with one session allowed per day.

Guidelines have been implemented to ensure the safety of patrons and staff, including social distancing and limited occupancy of 30 people at one time in the library.

“Fannin County Public Library is happy to be serving our community again and we look forward to seeing our wonderful patrons,” Branch Manager Monica Clark said.

The library will also be launching their summer reading program.

“We are excited to announce the start of our Summer Reading Program “Imagine Your Story” and the launch of our Beanstack Summer Reading Program website,”Clark said. “Beanstack is a website and smartphone application that allows children, teens, and adults to track their reading, write and read reviews of books, and participate in reading challenges to enter to win prizes and certificates.”

Those wishing to sign up for Summer Reading can go to https://www.mountainregionallibrary.org/beanstack to create an account, register for a reading challenge, and pick up your next reading adventure.

Virtual story times will also be offered throughout the summer, and will be shared on the Fannin County Public Library Facebook page.

“This is a great way for our youngest patrons to connect with Ms. Catherine (Burr, Youth Services Specialist) and experience the joy of reading,” Clark said. “We also have children’s Mystery Book Bags for checkout. Each bag has themed books and children are encouraged to guess the theme and share their reading adventure with our librarians.”

Online resources including audiobooks, ebooks, and magazines are available for check-out through RB Digital. Clark said, “eRead Kids offers downloadable books for all ages and can be accessed from the Mountain Regional Library website. Our Galileo platform offers resources that include articles, magazines, and research materials, and our staff members are here to help with any questions you may have.”
