Charges: Tennessee charges still remain
A Fannin County jury has found a former National Football League player guilty of a trio of misdemeanors, but failed to convict him of a more serious felony.
Byron Andrew Stingily was tried on a four count grand jury indictment that included the felony, Aggravated Assault, and a trio of misdemeanors, Battery, Hindering Emergency Telephone Call and Criminal Trespass.
He was sentenced to serve 30 days in jail and 36 months probation, according to Appalachian Judicial Circuit District Attorney Frank Wood III.
Stingily, 36, of 9692 Brass Valley Drive, Brentwood, Tennessee, was first arrested October 28, 2021, and charged with Misdemeanor, Battery (Family Violence).
The arrest by Fannin County deputy sheriffs followed an altercation at an Old Gravel Road address in Epworth.
In March 2022, A Fannin County Grand Jury indicted Stingily for Aggravated Assault, the lone felony charge, for allegedly strangling his victim “by placing his hands on and around the throat” and applying pressure.
The Battery indictment accused him of pushing and striking the person with his hands.
Stingily turned himself in at the Fannin County Jail April 25 to begin serving his sentence.
Stingily still faces a four count indictment in Williamson County, Tennessee, Circuit Court.
That indictment charges him with Aggravated Assault-Weapon; Aggravated Assault-Strangulation, Aggravated Assault, and Interference With Emergency Communications.
On October 21, 2021, he is accused of “use or display” of a deadly weapon, strangling or attempting to strangle the victim, and causing her serious bodily injury. The victim is the same as in the Fannin County case, according to the indictment.
Stingily was drafted in 2011 by the Tennessee Titans and played for three years with the Nashville team. He also played a year with the Pittsburgh Steelers and a year with the New York Giants.
