Fannin High School graduation rate climbs to over 95%

Fannin County High School has surpassed their four-year graduation rate of 93.91% for 2019 and achieved a rate of 95.2% for 2020.

Georgia’s overall graduation rate for this year is listed at 83.8%, which is an all-time high for the state and an increase from last year’s rate of 82%.

“This is an increase over the previous school year, and it is significantly higher than the overall rate for Georgia,” Superintendent Dr. Michael Gwatney said. “This rate reflects the efforts of all stakeholders – faculty and staff, parents, and students – and a focus on success, even when the final quarter of the school year was locked down during a pandemic. Fannin County High School has done a great job with our students, and they are to be commended along with the faculty and staff members of Fannin County Middle School, Blue Ridge Elementary School, East Fannin Elementary School, and West Fannin Elementary School; this success is shared by everyone in our district.

“I know that we remain committed to a 100% graduation rate, and I thank you for your work to ensure that our students are successful.”

According to Assistant Superintendent of Achievement & Governance Sarah Rigdon, only 29 school districts in the state recorded graduation rates above 95%.

“When you think about that, in light of their being 181 school districts in the state of Georgia, I think that clearly shows how great the Fannin County School System is performing currently,” Rigdon said. “It’s absolutely stellar.”

She explained that the four-year rate will be combined with the five-year rate to give the system an overall graduation rate for the year, however the five-year rate has not yet been reported by the state.
