Fannin FCCLA members bring home gold medals

Seven Fannin County Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) students competed at Region Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) event competitions on Saturday, February 22.

“Students began working on these competitions in October of 2019 and have worked diligently hosting events, job shadowing and participating in community service projects for each of their competitive events,” FCCLA Adviser Lauren Owenby said.

Junior Sydney Tarpley competed in Career Investigation, Junior Sierra Reynolds competed in Say Yes to Family and Consumer Sciences, Junior Isabella Tocci competed in Interpersonal Communications, Junior Alexis Hill and Sophomore Bailey Pettit competed in Chapter Service Project Portfolio Level 3, and Freshmen Anna Rhodes and Gracie Stewart competed in Chapter Service Project Portfolio Level 2.

Each student earned a gold medal rating for their projects and presentations after competing against students from across the region.

They each also scored in the Top 2 in the region, and will advance to the State Level STAR events competitions at the end of March.

“These competitions require a tremendous amount of time and commitment from these students,” Owenby said. “They have taken on responsibility to organize and execute projects that are truly amazing. I am so proud of these students!”
