Fannin County budget exceeds $51 million

Budget: Fannin County adopts $51 million plan for 2025

The Fannin County Board of Commissioner’s passed their balanced multi-million dollar budget Tuesday, December 10, during their regular meeting.

The budget included a $51,324,805 grand total for expenditures and revenue, which Finance Director Sherri Walker said is a 0.38% overall decrease from the previous year.

Of that number, $32,395,800 was alloted for general fund expenses. Aside from county business, $296,408 was designated to North Georgia Community Action, $146,688 to “Arts Program,” $26,250 to Fannin County Family Connection, $16,500 to the Mineral Springs Center, $8,000 to the Disabled American Veterans and $7,554 to North Georgia Mountain Crisis Center.

Also in the budget was $3,990,000 to aid in the completion of the new Fannin County Public Library. The commissioners also approved the guaranteed maximum price for that project during the meeting at $4,406,962.

Of that total, the county is expected to pay $4 million while the rest will be dependent on donations, Chairman Jamie Hensley said.

The largest expense, however, goes to roads from Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) funds at $7,791,770 followed by Hotel/Motel Excise Tax funds of $5,308,000 that are transfered to the general fund and Fannin County Chamber of Commerce.

Other multi-million dollar expenses include Risk Management, Recreations, Sheriff, County Detention/Jail, Emergency Services/EMS/Ambulance and Public Works.

SPLOST Distribution and Other Expenditures will also fall in the above category, and those provided funds can be used to improve local Fannin County roads, streets or bridges throughout the year as needed.

As far as revenues, the funds will come from SPLOST, Hotel/Motel Excise Tax, Multiple Grant Fund/Family Connections, Juvenile Fund/Fines, Jail Fund/Fines/Inmate Welfare, Drug Fines/Drug Education and Treatment, Crime Victims Assistance Fines/D.A., Donation/Special Project Fund, Emergency 911 Telephone Fund, Confiscation Assets Fund and Law Library/Clerk  Tech/Revolving Loan.
