Election qualifying starts Monday in Fannin

Primary and non-partisan election qualifying in Fannin County starts Monday, March 2 at 9 a.m. and ends Friday, March 6 at noon.

According to Election Supervisor Mary Ann Connor, potential candidates have filed Declarations of Intent in the commission chairman, Post One commissioner, coroner and school board (Lewis DeWeese’s seat) races. However, she said incumbents for the open positions still have their Declarations of Intent in place and do not have to submit new letters.

Early voting for the Presidential Preference Primary begins March 2 and ends March 20. Voters will be able to cast their ballots Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Elections Office in the Fannin County Courthouse during that time. They will also be able to vote Saturday, March 14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Presidential Preference Primary will take place Tuesday, March 24. Those waiting to vote on Election Day, will have to vote at their specified polling place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

“We are also accepting absentee applications for the May 19 General Primary/General Nonpartisan Election,” Connor said. “The cutoff date to register and be eligible to vote in the May 19 election is April 20.”
