Early voting starts May 18

Fannin County voters will have the opportunity to vote early in June 9th’s Presidential Preference Primary (PPP), General Voter 2020 Primary Election and Nonpartisan General Election elections starting Monday, May 18.

Early voting will run from May 18 through June 5, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Fannin County Election Office.

Voters will also have an opportunity to cast their ballots Saturday, May 30 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Votes that were already cast in the PPP before the election was postponed will still be honored. If a voter did not vote early in the March PPP they will receive the Democratic or Republican ballot with the PPP on it as well as the General Primary and Nonpartisan. Those who did vote in the March PPP will receive a ballot with just the General Primary and Nonpartisan ballot.

According to Election Supervisor Mary Ann Conner, only ten people will be allowed in the election office while voting is underway.

“We are under the 6 ft. 10 people rule when early voting begins,” Conner said. “We will have the floor marked and a monitor in the hallway. We will allow two people in the office lobby and 3 people at the voting machines. We will also be sanitizing throughout the day.”

She said the office has had 4,822 requests for absentee ballots and 781 returned ballots so far.

Those wishing to vote on election day will need to cast their ballots at their assigned polling places.

The Election Office can be reached at 706-632-7740 for more information. The office is located on the third floor of the Fannin County Courthouse.
