Fannin fire chief warns of danger
Controlled burns are getting out of control in Fannin County and are putting properties in danger.
Within the last week, a 40-foot by 40-foot pavilion in the Rock Creek area and a barn off Mineral Bluff Highway have been destroyed by fire, Fannin County Fire Chief Larry Thomas said.
Because of the danger created by extremely dry conditions throughout the county, Thomas said the fire department is discouraging any outdoor burning.
“The fire department has answered several calls in the past few days where small control burns had gotten out of hand and put other homes and property in danger,” Thomas said.
The fire chief said he hopes a forecast for rain Friday proves correct and it will again be safe to burn outdoors.
However, outdoor burning currently presents a serious risk to property.
