People of Fannin County and the Copper Basin have always been known for their willingness to come together and help those in need, no matter the circumstances. The COVID-19 situation is no exception.
Ashton Davis and Hannah Ritchie, two Fannin County High School seniors, work for Blue Ridge Pharmacy delivering prescriptions to those who are too sick or unable to come to the drug store.
Ashton made one of her stops to a senior citizen Thursday, March 26.
While the two of them talked, the elderly lady mentioned that she was running low on essential groceries. She had compiled a grocery list, but was unable to go to the store herself and couldn’t find anyone to go for her because of the coronavirus scare.
Davis took her list and after completing their 10-hour shift at the pharmacy, she and Ritchie went shopping for the elderly female. Davis and Ritchie were able to get all of the items and delivered the groceries back to the senior citizen’s home. “You should have seen her face. She was so happy,” Davis said.
Ritchie said, “She had no way of going and no one to go for her, so we wanted to do what we could for her.”
The elderly woman was overjoyed and could not thank Davis and Ritchie enough.
Paul Bright, Blue Ridge pharmacist and manager said, “I was completely unaware of their plans. They did this because they wanted to serve. They wanted to help, and that’s what all heroes do, no matter their age. Maybe more of us should stop and take a minute to look for needs in our community. Like Ashton and Hannah, we should look for ways that we can help those who are unable to help themselves.”
Bright continued, “We should all seek to help others. On Thursday, Ashton and Hannah did not just deliver medications or even groceries. They delivered compassion. All of us at Blue Ridge Pharmacy are so very proud of these two remarkable young ladies. Thank you.”
Both Davis and Ritchie are in the dual enrollment program, earning college credits while still in high school. After college both young ladies plan on pursuing careers in the healthcare field.
