“Let’s make some progress these next four years,” Greg Barker said after being sworn in as the new mayor of Copperhill last week.
Barker was joined by the city’s four new aldermen for a ceremony Monday, December 2, welcoming them to their official duties.
Taking their oaths of office were Jake Reuse, W.L. Standridge, Tamberlyn Tanner and Donna Martin.
All five were elected without opposition in November and will serve four year terms.
A crowd of around 50 people gathered in the gym at city hall for the ceremony and reception that followed.
Barker praised the efforts of the previous elected officials for their hard work. He also committed “to be the best mayor I possibly can.”
Polk County Executive Robby Hatcher conducted the swearing in ceremony.
Afterwards, he encouraged cooperation, looking at the history of a county traditionally torn apart by the mountains that divide it.
“It does not work when we don’t work together...I hope we can all work together,” Hatcher said.
“It’s important that we all prosper,” the county leader told the crowd.
