Community steps up to help Fannin seniors celebrate

While Fannin County High School graduating seniors are experiencing their last few months of high school in a different way than graduates of the past, local community members have come together to help them celebrate.

Seniors picked up their graduation packets from Jostens at La Pizzeria at Cucina Rustica and received a variety of gift cards and certificates from local Fannin County businesses at the same time.

Michelle Moran of Lit’l Pond Hospitality Group had the idea and enlisted community help in implementing it.

“This community has been amazing,” Lit’l Pond representative Erin Hagan said. “Michelle Moran is the one who came up with this idea, and it’s just kind of blossomed. It’s been really nice.”

According to Principal Erik Cioffi, Doss & Associates has also teamed up with McCaysville Properties to feature seniors on the billboard in front of Toccoa Lumber on Highway 515, and downtown Blue Ridge businesses hope to honor seniors with window displays.

Cioffi said, “We are very grateful for Michelle Moran, Danny Mellman and Erin Hagan for partnering with us to make this happen for our seniors. The community has been amazing in supporting our seniors with additional gifts and recognition efforts.”

According to Cioffi, virtual programs have been scheduled for end of year ceremonies and recognition events.

Graduation is planned for Friday, May 22. The tentative location for the event is the Swan Drive-In in Blue Ridge. Cioffi said specific details regarding graduation will be announced soon.

These events are planned for the following dates:

National Honor Society Induction for May 4 at 7 p.m.;

National Technical Society Induction for May 7 at 7 p.m.;

Senior Athletic Awards for May 12 at 7 p.m.;

Scholarship Awards for May 14 at 7 p.m.; and
