Fannin County High School (FCHS) senior Jackson Davis, who recently had a medical emergency and surgery, is home and trying to rest.
Thursday morning, August 26, Jackson was getting ready to go to school when he collapsed in the shower.
According to Jackson’s mother Christal Davis, “He remembers his right arm going stiff and then he just started spinning.”
After a call to 911, Jackson was rushed to the hospital and less than 24 hours later, he was having emergency surgery to remove a large mass on his brain and a shunt was
put in to drain the fluid. If the shunt does not drain all the fluid, a total craniotomy will need to be performed in two to three months.
“Aside from being bored and having headaches and sensitivity to light and sounds, he is doing well. ...The community has been absolutely wonderful,” said Christal Davis who is Jackson’s mother.
Not only has the community of Fannin County been supportive to Jackson and the Davis family, so has the Fannin County School System, which includes Superintendent Dr. Michael Gwatney, FCHS Principal Dr. Scott Ramsey, various staff and teachers, football Coach Chad Cheatham and other coaches, and fellow classmates have also demonstrated their support with daily phone calls, providing the Davis family with meals and Jackson with get well baskets and wishes as well as holding a prayer vigil outside their home Sunday, August 29.
“Coach Cheatham calls every day. I can’t say enough about our school system. We have the best school system,” said Christal Davis.
Jackson Davis currently plays on the FCHS football team. He plays the positions of running back, defensive back and on special teams. He wears number 23, so look for some of the football coaches and his fellow teammates to wear number 23 during the next FCHS football game as their way of showing support for Jackson and a full recovery.
