Boys & Girls Club honors FCHS seniors

The Boy & Girls Club of North Georgia’s Fannin County club is appreciative of Fannin County High School seniors and club members Lexi McGill and Matthew Shirah.

“At the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Georgia volunteers are very important, for many different reasons,” Club Director Victoria Turner said. “When Lexi and Matthew came to us as High School Senior volunteers, we were ecstatic.”

McGill’s favorite club memory involves working on their Christmas play. “My favorite Boys & Girls Club memory is getting to help the kids with their Christmas play and seeing the smiles on their faces when they’re having fun and performing,” she said. Shirah’s favorite memories involve “leading all the kids in various sports activities.”

The younger club members look up to the two as role models.

Turner said, “Our Club members referred to them as the ‘big kids,’ They both played a very special role in our Club, from being a mentor to a child, helping with our Drama Matters program and conducting our annual Christmas play, teaching kids sportsmanship and good character during recreation, helping with social skills in the game room and much more. We have truly enjoyed having them at our Club and we will miss them. We wish Lexi and Matthew success in everything they do in the future.”

McGill plans to attend Georgia Tech and pursue a degree in either Industrial or Mechanical Engineering, while Shirah intends to attend the United States Naval Academy and play college baseball while earning his degree in Engineering.

McGill recommends always trying your best, stating, “Always try to be your best, not perfect. Nobody is perfect, except Jesus, and if you do your best at something, you know you have done all you could do!”

Shirah suggested, “In everything you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
