Bond denied after suspect calls victim from Fannin jail

Eric Mark Dobson missed his chance to be released on bond from the Fannin County Detention Center last week when he allegedly called his victim while still in custody.

Fannin County Chief Magistrate Judge Brian Jones said he ordered Dobson held without bond after charges were filed in regard to the phone call.

Dobson, 55, of 15 Dogwood Ridge, Mineral Bluff, was arrested June 23 and charged with exploitation and intimidation of disabled adults, elder persons and residents; criminal damage to property, disorderly conduct and obstruction of an officer.

Deputies Erin Sehl and Jessie Godsey and Sergeant Scott White were called to the Mineral Bluff area shortly after 7 p.m. June 23 to a report of someone trying to break into an elderly victim’s home.

The victim had been able to sneak out of her home and run to her neighbor’s house. Deputies found Dobson in the victim’s home.

Jones said at Dobson’s first appearance hearing on the original charges he had set a $26,000 bond.

Between that hearing and before Dobson was able to make bond, he allegedly called the victim from the jail. By then, a Temporary Protective Order (TPO)was in place demanding he have no contact with his victim. Dobson violated by the phone call, Jones said.

A charge of aggravated stalking was then taken out against Dobson, and in the initial appearance hearing on that charge Wednesday, July 1, Jones denied bond. He said that decision was based on Dobson being a “significant risk to harm someone or the community.” Also, the allegation of violating the TPO has to go before a superior court judge.
