Body identified as Potter

The body found in a car Thursday, June 11, has been identified as Anthony D. Potter, 54, of Old Bullen Gap Road in Blue Ridge.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Crime Lab made the identification, which was announced Thursday, June 18, according to Investigations Sergeant J.K. Davenport of the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office.

Although the exact cause of death has not been released, Davenport said no foul play is suspected.

Potter’s body was found in a vehicle parked at the canoe launch at 365 North River Road.

A fisherman reported the vehicle, which had dark tinted windows, and was backed off the main parking area. At the time, the vehicle was said to have been there since the previous Saturday, June 6.

A missing person report had been filed by a friend of Potter with the sheriff’s office.

Davenport said the victim was last seen by his employer Friday, June 5. At the time, he had made suicidal threats.

Potter, who was originally from Pennsylvania, had been living in the area for an unknown amount of time, but had no family in the area, Davenport said.
