Scam: Election board will not text, email with warning
Residents are being targeted with a new scam warning them they are not registered to vote.
Sonia Smith, chairwoman of the Fannin County Board of Elections, warned of the scam last week.
It appears to be a click bait scam seeking citizen’s personal information, she said. One person in the election board’s office and one other citizen had reported the scam as of last Tuesday afternoon, September 3.
Two different versions of the scam have been discovered, and have been received by text message or email.
Smith warns they are designed to look like they come from a political campaign, and one has included a picture of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
A screenshot of one that has been received reads, “ALERT: Voter Registration Not Found. Our review of public records suggests that you are not registered to vote.
“Your vote in 2024 is critical for Trump to win. Less than 44,000 reported votes made Joe Biden President. Every vote counts, and Trump truly needs yours in 2024.
“It’s quick & easy to register online. Please do it now athttps://p.djtfp24.com/uAid7,” the message concludes.

There are only 60 days left to get registered and make your voice heard in the upcoming November elections. Register safely and securely here: a.AVotetoday.com/ 8VxHWC6.

“These are not real. The Board of Elections will never contact you in this way,” Smith said.
“Whatever you do, don’t click the link or provide any personal information,” Smith said. “The scam has nothing to do with actual voter registration.”
