Eight Blue Ridge born puppies adopted out of the Humane Society of Blue Ridge (HSBR)’s adoption center celebrated their first birthday Monday, June 1.
This is a significant milestone for the humane society because their mom, Emma, was the first dog to give birth at the adoption center.
Emma was homeless and emaciated when she was brought to the HSBR Adoption Center. They were surprised to discover the skinny dog they took in was pregnant.
She successfully delivered and took care of her eight pups, who are named Mister, Frank, Emmy, Chunk, Khloee, Rosie, River and Maddie.
The shelter reported, in August of last year, that Emma and her litter were the “lucky ones.”
“Without proper shelter and care, they would not have survived,” they said.
All eight puppies, and Emma, have now been adopted and happily reside in their “furever” homes.
“All eight puppies Emma had were adopted to fabulous homes who keep in touch with each other regularly,” HSBR board member Wendy Miller said. “Emma’s litter was not only the firstborn at HSBR, but united a group of people in friendship.”
Emma, a very active momma, lives with Mackenzie Sok, and a dog sibling named Hazel. She recently became an “Iron Paws” finisher and, according to Miller, can frequently be seen out hiking and running with her family.
Chunk lives with Jennifer Cullari, and a bunch of dog and cat siblings. He loves to help train dogs that Jennifer brings into her home for training. He is also learning how to dock dive, so people may see him making a splash in the future.
Mister and Rosie live with Pam and Danny Rhea. The two pups love to chase each other around their yard. They are both very affectionate and love every person they meet.
Emmy and River share a home with Courtney and Andrew Hyatt, and a dog sibling named Lizzy. They all enjoy cuddling and playing together.
Khloee and Maddie live with Sunni and Robert Lupo. They love to bird watch and chase furry critters around their yard.
Frank traveled the farthest when he found his home in Maine, living with Jaimee and David Wellington. There, he has three dog siblings, and enjoys cuddling and playing in the snow.
“Emma and all her children are doing very well in their new homes,” Miller said.
