Arrest: Suspect gives up peacefully
A standoff that lasted five hours came to a peaceful end when Sergeant Scott Galloway of the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office convinced the suspect to surrender.
Chandler Riley Patton, 25, of 1616 Scenic Drive, Blue Ridge, is charged with four felonies including two counts of Aggravated Assault and two counts of Terroristic Threats and Acts; and two misdemeanors, Reckless Conduct, and Pointing Gun/Pistol at another.
He was denied bond in a hearing Thursday, April 17, by Magistrate Judge James Altman and remained held in the Fannin County Jail.
Patton was taken into custody at 10 p.m. Tuesday night, April 15, ending a standoff that began shortly after 5 p.m.
Deputies were called to the Scenic Drive location, listed on warrants as Patton’s address, in regard to the suspect having an altercation with other family members, according to Investigator Erin Arp of the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office.
During that altercation, Patton had pointed a gun at two family members and threatened to kill them, according to warrants taken by Deputy Sheriff Cole O’Connor.
When deputies arrived, they heard shots fired, and Patton had run into the basement of the home, refusing to come out. Authorities were told he had firearms and at least 1,000 rounds of ammunition.
A Georgia State Patrol SWAT team was called and arrived shortly before 10 p.m. As members were preparing to remove Patton from the basement, word was received that Galloway had been able to talk Patton out of the basement and had the suspect in custody.
