18 cases added to Fannin’s COVID-19 tally

Fannin County has seen an additional 18 cases of COVID-19 in the last week.

This brings the county’s total up to 1,992 positive cases since the pandemic began. As of Monday, March 8, fifty-one of those people who had contracted the virus have died, 11 probable deaths have been reported and 161 have been hospitalized. 

In comparison, last week the county had seen 1,974 positive cases total as of Monday, February 22. Fifty-one of those people who had contracted the virus had died, nine probable deaths had been reported and 159 had been hospitalized. 

Of the Fannin County School System’s 2,898 students, less than 10 have a current COVID-19 status, 49 are quarantined due to exposure at school and 23 are quarantined due to non-school exposure. There are currently 359 students enrolled in online learning that do not attend in-person classes.

Of the 472 system employees, less than 10 have a current COVID-19 status, and none are quarantined due to an exposure at school or a non-school exposure.

The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) reported that Georgia has seen 829,077 confirmed cases, 15,640 virus related deaths, 2,308 probable deaths, 56,836 hospitalizations and 9,269 ICU admissions. Of these, 752 confirmed cases, 43 deaths and 39 hospitalizations were reported March 8. 

In comparison, last week the state had seen 819,730 confirmed cases and 15,148 virus related deaths.

Eligible Fannin County residents are able to make appointments for COVID-19 vaccination at the Fannin County Health Department through the North Georgia Health District at this time. Those interested in making an appointment should call 1-888-881-1474.

The vaccine is currently available for individuals 65 years of age and older and their caregivers, healthcare personnel and long-term care facility residents and staff, and law enforcement, fire, EMS personnel and 9-1-1 operators, Pre-K through 12th grade educators and staff, adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their caregivers, and parents of children with complex medical conditions.

As of Monday, there had been 7,693 vaccinations administered in Fannin County, and 2,353,304 had been administered statewide. This county’s number included 4,595 of Dose 1 vaccinations and 3,098 of Dose 2.

Statewide, 1,215 providers were shipped vaccines and 2,897,915 total vaccines had been shipped. As of Monday, 81% of that amount had been administered. 

According to the Georgia Geospatial Information Office, the United States has seen 29,010,923 confirmed cases and 525,236 deaths.
