An early morning shooting near the McDonald’s restaurant in Ocoee, Tennessee, has left one man dead and another charged with his murder.
The victim has been identified as Mickey Lee Goodman, 52. Charged with Second Degree Murder in his death is Jayson A. Wentworth, 34, of Ocoee, according to a statement from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Polk County’s 911 center received a call at approximately 12:35 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, reporting a shooting at 178 U.S. Highway 64, which is also the location of the EZ Stop gas station in West Polk County. The location is near the intersection with U.S. Highway 411.
Deputies and EMS personnel arriving on the scene found Goodman suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was transported to Bradley Medical Center in Cleveland, Tennessee, where he died.
The victim’s body has been transported to the Knoxville Regional Forensic Center in Knoxville, Tennessee, for an autopsy.
The statement from the sheriff’s office said investigators processed the crime scene, interviewed witnesses and reviewed security camera footage, which resulted in Wentworth being identified as a suspect.
Investigators and deputies then went to Wentworth’s home and took him into custody without incident.
He is being held in the Polk County Jail under a $750,000 bond, the statement said.
