Two suspects have been arrested in connection with a malnourished dog picked up by a Fannin County Animal Control officer Saturday, January 24.
Levi Jehu Franklin, 31, and Kristin Lynn Franklin, 30, both of 138 Lake Drive, Morganton, turned themselves in at the Fannin County Jail Wednesday, February 4.
Each is charged with two felony counts of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals.
Warrants charging each suspect with failing to provide adequate food and water to two animals were sworn out by Investigator Erin Arp of the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office.
Following their arrests, bond was set at $50,000 for each suspect by Chief Magistrate Judge Brian Jones.
As special conditions of those bonds, any violation of the law can lead to a bond revocation and incarceration. Additionally, both are prohibited from possessing, caring for or being in control of any animal.
Both suspects were released the same day as their arrests after posting bond.
Franklin also remains on administrate leave from her job with the Fannin County School System, according to records.
Animal Control Officer Luke McDonald had been called to the Morganton residence for the report of an apparently unresponsive dog January 24.
That dog, an eight-year-old Basset Hound named Dolly, was taken to an area veterinarian, and has since been reported as recovering. A second dog, Cash, was later picked up at the residence.
