Memories, faith and congratulations were shared during Fannin County High School’s graduation Friday, May 22, at Rebel Stadium.
Despite looming storms and gusty winds, seniors and their loved ones filled the stadium in support of the students’ “next chapter” as Principal Dr. Scott Ramsey and Salutatorian Heath Bradburn said.
Graduate Sydney German delivered an "inspirational opening” to get the event underway.
“Before we step into the future, it’s important we pause, take it all in and turn our hearts to the One who has guided us every step of the way,” she said before offering a prayer.
Graduates Harley Stanley and Hudson York introduced staff and school board members to the crowd.
Introducing Bradburn was fellow graduate Miller Denton.
“Over the years, I’ve gotten to see not only how incredibly hardworking he is but also the kind of person he is. Heath is one of the best guys I know," Denton said.
Denton described Bradburn’s character, discipline, athleticism and competitive nature.
Bradburn thanked God and those who he has “shared this journey with.”
“For years, graduation felt so far away,” Bradburn said, “Now suddenly we’re here, wearing caps and gowns about to walk across this field, realizing this chapter of our lives is coming to an end.”
Acknowledging the “pressure to have our futures completely figured out,” Bradburn said, “Life … is about continuing to grow, learn and move forward even when things are uncertain while trusting the plan God has laid out for us.”
Graduate Charis Brogden introduced Valedictorian Madeline “Maddie” Schueneman, saying, “Being named valedictorian shows you how smart she is, but knowing her shows you how extraordinary she is.”
Brogden called Schueneman “selfless, courageous and a natural-born leader.”
Schueneman said, “As you’re coming to a crossroads, weighing choices and making decisions, are you finding yourself considering your true life’s purpose?”
Listing common goals people strive toward, she said, “My fellow graduates, I want so much more for you than a life of meaninglessness. I want for you true purpose, contentment and eternal peace, and I promise with all that I am, this kind of life is possible [with Jesus Christ].”
