Turtletown teenager and Copper Basin High School basketball player Carson Parris is praying for the Golden Ticket to Hollywood after auditioning for American Idol in Nashville Friday, June 6.
“I just want to give a special thanks to my mom, dad and brothers for being my biggest fans. And, thank you to my friends and this amazing community for being such strong supporters through this journey,” Carson Parris said.
After auditioning, his mother Jamie West Parris said, “He nailed it. He was not nervous at all in the audition. Positive, positive feedback. Everyone in there loved him.”
Carson Parris sang “Wondering Why” by The Red Clay Strays and “Feathered Indians” by Tyler Childers for judges.
While the TV shows things differently, the results of whether or not he’d make it to the next round had not yet been decided as of publication of The News Observer. It could take up to four weeks to get results.
“Out of over 70,000 auditions, only 200 will move forward to the next round,” his mother said.
“Carson has had a passion for music from the time he could talk and has been actively performing in local restaurants, churches and community events.”
No matter the outcome, his mother added that Carson trusts it is part of God’s plan for his life.
“He wants to continue making his community proud and sharing his journey with those who have supported him from the beginning,” she said.
Carson Parris’ father Nathan, who can be seen in many of Carson Parris’ videos on social media singing and playing guitar, said, “I want to thank everyone in our community who has lifted Carson up in prayer. Your encouragement gave him the confidence to take this step. We’re proud of him beyond words and grateful to be part of such a supportive community.”
