The Ladies Golf Association (LGA) of Old Toccoa Farm (OTF) has raised $32,500 for breast cancer post-operation and preventative care.
The outgoing and incoming presidents and tournament co-chairs presented a check to Dr. Maria Langella December 9 at The Tavern at OTF.
Outgoing LGA President Kathy Burke said the tournament began after another LGA member was diagnosed with the disease. For the last three years, the money raised has gone to Langella and the Breast Cancer Thrive organization. Langella, who practices in Jasper, Georgia, provides free breast cancer education, occupational therapy and Lymphedema, a post-operation complication, screenings. She said these resources are not typically covered by insurance.
Langella said her mission is to “make sure none of my patients ever have to suffer” with Lymphedema.
This past tournament saw 96 golfers and raised a record amount of money.
Each year, they have been able to raise even more funds, tournament co-chair Kerri Dewitz said.
