Lynette Agustin Morales, Kyle Bird, Karma Marlow, Karrissa Martin and Emma Stanley are this year’s Fannin County REACH Scholarship recipients.
REACH, short for realizing educational achievement can happen, is a state-funded program designed to equip students with academic, social and financial support throughout their high school career.
Starting in the eighth grade, students are paired with mentors from the community that help guide them to graduation.
To remain eligible for the scholarship, students commit to making good grades and maintaining good attendance while staying free of crime, drugs and alcohol.
A scholarship presentation was held honoring these students at the school system’s Staff Development Center November 18.
There, students and supporters heard about the program from school officials and Georgia House Representative Johnny Chastain. The students also signed their contracts, signifying their intent to follow through with the stipulations.
“This couldn’t happen without the community effort,” Superintendent Shannon Dillard said.
