A late night altercation between a father and son Wednesday, April 1, resulted in the death of the son.
Fannin County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Major Keith Bosen said the son, Charles Gregory “Greg” Dillingham succumbed to his injuries at Northeast Georgia Medical. The sheriff’s office received word of his death at around 6 a.m. Thursday, April 2.
The 54-year-od victim had been flown to the Gainesville, Georgia, hospital by helicopter immediately after the incident.
Bosen said deputies were dispatched to Charles G. Dillingham’s residence at 15828 Old Highway 76 in Morganton at approximately 10 p.m. to the report of a shooting.
That shooting occurred during an altercation between the elder Dillingham, who is 79-years-old, and the son.
During that altercation, the father produced a .22 caliber magnum handgun and shot the son once in the stomach, Bosen said.
Deputies were told allegations of past incidents that may have occurred between the two.
Bosen said Thursday morning, April 2, “It’s still very early in the investigation. No charges have been filed.”
