XC: Holloway, Sams pace girls
The Fannin County High School (FCHS) boys and girls cross country teams ran against elite competition at the Wingfoot XC Classic at Sam Smith Park in Cartersville, Georgia, Saturday, September 21.
Head coach Miranda Roof said that for the first time in FCHS history, based on their race results as a team this season, the girls team qualified to run in the nighttime Championship Race at Wingfoot.
Based on their race results as a team throughout this season, the boys team qualified to run in the Varsity A Race.
The girls were led by Lindsey Holloway and Karli Sams who both finished in the top 100 in the Wingfoot Championship Race against some of the best teams and runners in the state and throughout the southeast.
Sams met the Milesplit Bronze-Level standard for the first time this season, and Holloway met the Milesplit Bronze-Level standard for the fourth time this season.
The other point scorers for the girls team were Lila Borum, Sydney Ford, and Kensley Pickelsimer. Lana Hicks and Annaleigh Cheatham also competed in the race.
The boys team was led by Rylin Davis and Hudson Lynch who both ran personal best times. The other point scorers for the boys team were Austin Prieto, Gage Bryan, and Henry Schuneman. Schuneman also ran a personal best time. Brodey Angel and Matthew Ponton also competed in the race.
The next competition for the teams is at the Mountain Invitational at Unicoi State Park in Helen, Goergia, Thursday, October 3.
